Many clients want to "do it themselves" when it comes to their website.  Mainly for budgeting reasons, clients feel that it's not a difficult task to find a template that they like and customize it to their needs.  This is all well and good, until you understand what is involved.  In this article, I hope to shed some light on this situation.

GENERIC TEMPLATES:  Companies, such as templatemonster.com, offer generic templates that are not built for anyone in particular.  These templates are at very reasonable rates (example: $55).  Sounds like a good deal, right?  WRONG.  The $55 only lets you have the template... you do NOT own the rights to this design... anyone that sees this design before you...or after you... can have their website looking and feeling the same as your companies website.  Any serious company would think twice about allowing their image to be meshed with a competitor or with a fly-by-night company.  Well, there's always the "unique price", right?  Well, I guess you could go that route...but you would have to be EXTREMELY lucky!!!  Here's what i mean: The "unique" price says that, yes! you get this product and no person AFTER you can claim rights to it... however... what about those people who purchased the design BEFORE you at the $55 price?  That's right... they can still have your design.  So how can you win?  SIMPLE....
