Recently, in the June edition of PC World, they gave an interesting tip on two companies that are offering, what PC World calls, a "Do-It-Yourself" social network; be it for your bowling league or starting a business networking group, you can connect people online by creating this social network yourself.

Just like MySpace, Friendster and even... DOGSTER... Ning & Nexo allow you to set up a social network... essentially setting up your own myspace or friendster... I recently tested it out and started up a small business networking group... it's fantastic.  You can blog, give comments, share pictures...etc... everything you can do on myspace.  However, at least with this one, you can keep it within a small group of friends & their friends, etc.

They describe it as getting away from "the spam and adolescent silliness that can accompany big sites.  They let anyone create a site... at no cost!  They provide you with a URL with their domain; you can blog, create forums and video modules to share.  I tried Ning (I liked the look of it better) and found it extremely easy to use.

Check out these web communities and take it for a test drive!
