What Is RSS?

How does RSS work? You publish a new website page about a topic and you want others interested in that topic to know about it. By listing the page as an "item" in your RSS file, you can have the page appear in front of those who read information using RSS readers or "news aggregators". RSS also allows people to easily add links to your content within their own web pages. Bloggers are a huge core audience that especially does this. (SearchEngineWatch)

Here's how to insert feed onto your site:

There is a great website that lives off of donations (so donate if you use their product...they deserve it) www.rapidfeeds.com.  All you need to do is find a feed site that you want and get the link.  Fill out a new feed entry on your rapid feeds account and insert the feed link.  It will produce a code... personally, I would choose javascript unless you're familiar with how to use php or asp.  Now just insert the code that it produced into your website where you would like it to appear.  VOILA!  It's that easy.

How about offering your site up for feeds? Do you have information that is constantly updated on your site that people might like to subscribe to? Well, to do that you'll have to create an rss.xml file. Once you create the file you can use Rapid Feeds to create a button to subcribe to your feed.

You can use software to aide you in creating an RSS.xml file http://www.feedforall.com/feedforall.htm, however creating the file yourself is very simple.  Follow the steps here at Search Engine Watch.  Just don't forget that besides having the .xml feed file, you need to have the actual content on a specific page that corresponds with the link in your feed .xml page.

What a great way to constantly update content on your site.   Spiders will love you for that.
