12 WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF: SECURITY TIPS

Internet Security is a huge issue with business owners. There is a lot of money that is invested into security on these business' networks. There are ways to protect your networks.
1) Distrust unexpected emails attachments -- stop being curiously click happy!
2) Use bookmarked email links and/or retype http links in the address bar to avoid redirects to suspicious websites.
4) Use strong, unique passwords for different sites. This means use a different password for each site you visit. This will attempt to keep your important accounts safe... the perpetrator will not have the password to EVERY account. (
check the strength of your password here)
5) Test downloaded programs that you're unsure of. Upload the suspected file (if it's 10MB or less) to
virustotal.com, which scans submissions using multiple antivirus engines to catch malware that ny one antivirus app may miss.
6) Update security patches for your operating system and web browser.
7) Back up your data on a routine basis.
8) Make sure to LOG OFF of the application you're in so that no one can gain access.
9) Use a
phishing filter.
10) Use updated antivirus software. (ie.
AVG free anti-virus)
11) Use updated antispyware technology and ad-ware technology. (i.e.
Adaware &
SpyBot S&D)
